
The 35 Artillery Brigade in Abeokuta, Ogun State, has assured members of the public that investigations into the death of a labourer identified as Oluwaseyi Adeoye are ongoing.
DAILY POST reported that Adeoye was shot by a soldier at a demolition site at Ganic Company, Orile-Imo, along the Sagamu-Abeokuta Expressway on Monday.
The deceased was a member of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development team tasked with demolishing unlawful buildings in the neighbourhood.
According to sources, the ministry workers and officials, led by one Mr. Hamzat, stormed the site to enforce demolition orders but were thwarted by military personnel stationed there.
The soldiers on the ground reportedly objected to the demolition, leading to a confrontation and disagreement, during which a soldier allegedly opened fire in annoyance.
According to eyewitnesses, a bullet struck Adeoye during the chaos, and he reportedly died on the spot. His corpse was deposited at the State General Hospital morgue in Ijaye, Abeokuta.
Reacting to the incident, Major Idereghi Akari, the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 35 Artillery Brigade, in a statement on Tuesday, acknowledged the gravity of the situation and extended his sincerest condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the deceased.
He stated that a Board of Inquiry has been promptly constituted to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
It reads, “Headquarters 35 Artillery Brigade has taken cognizance of allegations surrounding an incident at a demolition site at Ganic Company, Orile-Imo, Sagamu-Abeokuta Expressway, Ogun State, on 23 February 2026, involving a soldier and a labourer, reportedly resulting in a fatality.
“The Brigade acknowledges the gravity of the situation and extends its sincerest condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of the deceased. Consequently, a Board of Inquiry has been promptly constituted to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident.”
He reiterated the Brigade’s commitment to transparency and accountability, noting that the findings of the investigation will be made public as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, he urged members of the public and the media to remain calm, saying, “We promise to provide further updates as the investigation progresses.”
