Iran and Hezbollah launched coordinated strikes on Israel on Tuesday, with cluster munitions reportedly used in synchronized attacks, according to security analysts and Israeli officials.
The attacks came on day 11 of Operations Epic Fury and Roaring Lion, the joint U.S.-Israeli campaign targeting Iran, signaling a potential escalation in the widening regional conflict.
Israel also confirmed that Iran had been firing cluster munitions, a development that complicates interception efforts, according to reports.
DAILY POST reports that cluster warheads burst open at high altitudes, dispersing dozens of smaller bomblets across a wide area.
The submunitions, which can appear as orange fireballs at night, are difficult to intercept and can cause significant casualties.
Fox News reported that despite Israel’s advanced air defense systems, roughly half of the incoming missiles were difficult to defend against because they carried cluster munitions.
Sources familiar with Hezbollah’s military activities said the Iran-backed group had returned to guerrilla-style tactics in southern Lebanon.
On Tuesday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it had launched a wave of airstrikes targeting Hezbollah infrastructure in Beirut’s southern suburbs after warning residents to evacuate the area, a Hezbollah stronghold known as the Dahiyeh.
In a post on X, the IDF said the strikes targeted sites linked to Hezbollah operations.
