Former lawmaker who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Shehu Sani, has commended Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, describing him as a principled and courageous leader for refusing to be drawn into actions that could violate international law.
Sani made the remarks via his official X handle amid heightened global tensions following reported pressure from the United States over access to Spanish military bases.
“The Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, has distinguished himself as a principled leader with a conscience for refusing to be used to violate international law and wage illegal wars,” Sani wrote.
He further stated that the Spanish leader had elevated his country’s moral standing within Europe.
“He thrust his nation as a European moral compass. History will remember him as one who stood up to a bully and stood out against war,” the former senator added.
DAILY POST reports that Sani’s comments come after Spain firmly clarified its position in response to recent threats from US President Donald Trump, following Spain’s refusal to grant access to its bases for a potential military strike on Iran.
Addressing the issue, Sánchez clearly articulated his government’s stance, declaring: “Our stance can be summed up in four words: ‘No to the war.’
