Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh, the wife of Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has died in Tehran.
Bagherzadeh died after succumbing to injuries she sustained in a joint United States–Israeli military strike, Iranian state media reported on Monday.
Iranian outlets say Bagherzadeh, 79, had been in a coma since Saturday after the US and Israeli air campaign struck multiple targets in and around the Iranian capital, killing her husband and other senior officials.
Born in Mashhad, Iran, Bagherzadeh was married to Khamenei in 1965 and was a prominent figure within Iran’s clerical elite as the leader’s wife for more than three decades.
