The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has issued an urgent alert to law enforcement agencies across California over a potential drone attack allegedly linked to Iran. According to an internal memo, Iranian authorities were believed to be considering deploying unmanned aerial vehicles from an unidentified vessel positioned off the U.S. coastline. The suspected plan emerged after tensions escalated following U.S. military actions that killed Irans Supreme Leader last month. The warning stated that intelligence gathered in early February suggested Iran may have considered launching a surprise attack using drones targeting unspecified locations in California if the United States carried out strikes against Iran. Investigators said the potential attack could involve Iranian-made drones such as the Shahed136 drone, commonly referred to as kamikaze drones. Authorities noted that California has the largest concentration of Iranian dissidents and Iranian-Americans in the United States, estimated at around 500,000 people, although it remains unclear whether that factor played a role in the alleged plan. The FBI alert was circulated to police departments across the state but did not specify possible targets. Officials also said they currently have no additional details regarding the timing, method, or individuals responsible for the alleged plot.

The development comes amid rising tensions following recent military strikes carried out by the United States and Israel against Iranian targets, which pushed the region closer to open conflict. California Governor Gavin Newsom addressed the warning during a press briefing, describing the threat as critical. He said state authorities were already aware of the intelligence and were working closely with the State Operations Center to monitor the situation. Newsom added that he had not yet discussed the issue directly with Donald Trump but urged federal leaders to communicate clearly with Americans about the situation and the potential risks.Despite the warning, President Trump told reporters he was not concerned about the possibility of Iranian attacks on U.S. soil. A threat assessment prepared by the Office of Intelligence and Analysis at the Department of Homeland Security suggested Iran and its allied groups could pose a threat of targeted attacks, although a large-scale assault on the United States remains unlikely. Meanwhile, tensions in the Middle East continued to escalate as several vessels were reportedly attacked near the Strait of Hormuz, one of the worlds most important oil shipping routes. Among the ships affected was the Thai-flagged cargo vessel Mayuree Naree, which reported a fire in its engine room that forced the crew to evacuate. The attack was claimed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which said the ship had ignored warnings from Iranian authorities to stay away from the strategic waterway. The incidents came as Iran vowed to launch what it described as its most intense operation since the conflict began, raising fears that the crisis could further disrupt global shipping and energy markets.Following the attacks, the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) issued a warning advising civilians to avoid port facilities in Iran where naval forces are operating, noting that such locations could become legitimate military targets under international law.CENTCOM said U.S. forces would continue taking precautions to minimize civilian harm but could not guarantee safety near facilities used by Iranian military forces.
