A container vessel was reportedly struck by gunfire from an Iranian naval craft off the coast of Oman on Wednesday, in an incident that damaged the ship’s bridge but left all crew members safe, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations, UKMTO.

The UKMTO said the ship’s master reported that an Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, IRGC, gunboat approached the vessel before opening fire, causing visible damage to the bridge area.

Despite the attack, authorities confirmed that there were no resulting fires or environmental pollution linked to the incident.

The event occurred approximately 15 nautical miles northeast of Oman’s coastline.

The maritime agency further stated that the vessel was able to continue its voyage after the incident, with all personnel on board reported unharmed.

Security officials have since launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack, which adds to growing concerns over maritime safety amid rising tensions in the Gulf region.
