A former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has raised an alarm on his possible arrest on trumped-up charges by agents of the Federal Government.
El-Rufai, a former member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) spoke on BBC Hausa on Wednesday.
The ex-governor decried what he called political intimidation opposition elements by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
He recalled that some of his associates in the opposition group, including a former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, had been detained by agents of the government on various charges.
“Four people we worked with in Kaduna have been arrested; so it’s only a matter of time before they come for me too,” El-Rufai stated.
He expressed regret that the current political climate is forcing individuals to make decisions not out of conviction but desperation for survival.
El-Rufai dumped the APC for the Social Democratic Party ( SDP) last year after he fell out with the party and the Tinubu’ administration.
He later teamed up with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, and others in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to form an alliance against Tinubu’ and APC in the 2027 general election.
