Former presidential media aide, Bashir Ahmad has condemned recent comment by Plateau based pastor, Rev Ezikel Dachomo on the new tax law.
Dachomo had in an interview that recently went viral, claimed that the new tax reform policy expected to take off in January will only affect Christians, stating that Muslims would be exempted.
The remark has attracted a series of criticism with many social media users condemning the statement, saying everything is not about religion.
Reacting, Bashir in a post on X, said such a narrative appears to be a “deliberate and systematic attempt to sabotage the tax reform by presenting it as something that will be applied based on religious affiliation.
“It is worrying how almost everything, absolutely everything, is now being viewed and interpreted through a spiritual lens in this country.
“Turning national policies into religious talking points only deepens division and distracts from meaningful discussions about governance and development.
“Stakeholders, especially religious leaders with huge influence over gullible people, should engage with issues with facts and responsibility, not sensationalism”.
