Dr. Jibril Lawal Tafida, Special Adviser to the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has dismissed a viral document circulating on social media alleging disagreement with some officials of the National Assembly.
He described it as a forged letter aimed at causing disaffection and tarnishing the image of the Senate leadership.
The unsigned letter, dated November 22, 2025, was addressed to the Office of the President and contained allegations of corruption in the National Assembly, as well as claims that the Senate President abandoned Tafida during a personal loss.
The document has been widely shared online.
In a disclaimer issued on Saturday and titled “DISCLAIMER ON A FABRICATED DOCUMENT CIRCULATING IN MY NAME”, Dr. Tafida said he had nothing to do with the publication.
“My attention has been drawn to a lengthy text circulating on media and online platforms, attributed to me and purporting to contain allegations against the President of the Senate,” he said.
“I state unequivocally and without ambiguity that I did not write, author, endorse, or authorize the said document in any form.
“The content and allegations in that document were clearly crafted to sow confusion, damage reputations, and drag my name into political mischief,” Tafida said.
“Anyone who reads it carefully will see it is false. The Senate President is not on the National Assembly Tenders Board and has no role in contracts or contract awards, so the claims of contract padding make no sense. From my short time here, I also know that the entire National Assembly complex is owned and managed by the FCDA through its contractor, Laralex Nigeria Ltd. I completely reject the publication and distance myself from it.”
Tafida stressed that he still holds the Senate President in very high regard, both on a personal level and in their professional dealings.
He said their relationship has always been cordial, respectful, and built on cooperation and trust.
He added that he has never expressed or entertained any of the views contained in the circulated document.
“This is a deliberate attempt to weaponise my name in order to malign the leadership of the Senate and create disaffection where none exists. I urge the public, media organisations, political actors, and digital distributors to disregard, delete, retract, and desist from circulating it.
“I reaffirm my loyalty to the Office of the President of the Senate and the Senate as a whole. I remain committed to supporting the work of the National Assembly in the interest of national stability, unity, and democratic progress,” the statement read.
