Jersey to return looted $9.5m to Nigeria

The Federal Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Bailiwick of Jersey for the return of $9.5 million recovered from corrupt public officials.

The funds have been earmarked for the completion of the Abuja-Kano Road and other legacy projects in the country.

The Attorney-General for Jersey, Mark Temple KC, signed the agreement  for the repatriation of the funds to Nigeria in December 2025.

The British High Commission confirmed the development in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by it’s media officer, Stephen Odekunle.

“This successful return demonstrates the strength of our civil forfeiture legislation as a powerful tool in the fight against corruption.

‘“I thank the Nigerian authorities for their cooperation and the Economic Crime and Confiscation Unit in my department for their unwavering commitment to recover the proceeds of crime,” the statement read.
