The Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, has been elected Chairman of the Progressive Speakers Conference, a body comprising Speakers of State Houses of Assembly elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Dangyatin emerged as chairman during the conference’s annual congress and election of new executive members held in Abuja.
The Progressive Speakers Conference was formed to strengthen coordination among APC Speakers nationwide, promote the party’s ideals, foster unity, and contribute to the growth of sustainable democracy, peace, and national development.
Other officials elected at the congress include the Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly as Deputy Chairman (South), the Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly as Deputy Chairman (North), and the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly as Treasurer.
Six zonal vice chairmen were also elected, among them the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, who will represent the South-West zone, while the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly will represent the North-Central zone, alongside others.
The newly elected executive members are scheduled to be sworn in on Monday, February 9, 2026.
Reacting to the development, Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, congratulated Dangyatin on his election, describing it as well deserved.
In a statement issued by his chief press secretary, the governor noted that Dangyatin’s emergence comes at a critical time as the party prepares for the upcoming general elections.
He expressed confidence that the Jigawa Speaker would draw on his experience and steadfastness to strengthen collaboration among APC members and help secure the party’s victory at all levels in the 2027 general elections.
