The Kano State Film Censorship Board has shut down a herbal medicine shop over allegations that its owner used children in an indecent advertisement promoting sexual enhancement products.
The Board said the action followed multiple complaints from members of the public over an advert it said contained inappropriate language and imagery.
In a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, the Board confirmed that the shop was sealed pending further investigation into the matter.
Chairman of the Board, Abba El-Mustapha, said the owner popularly known as “Nagwale” has been summoned to appear before the Board to respond to the allegations.
Speaking on the development, the Director of the Ethics Department, Zakari Garun Babba, condemned the use of children and indecent content in advertising, describing it as a serious breach of regulations.
“Sellers and promoters of these kinds of products must understand that involving children or indecent content in adverts is unacceptable and punishable,” he warned.
According to the statement, the accused has admitted wrongdoing and appealed for forgiveness from the people of Kano.
As part of disciplinary measures, the Board directed him to issue a written, audio, and video apology, which will be documented for future reference.
