The Director-General of Media and Publicity at the Kano State Government House, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, has criticised former governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso for leaving the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

In a Facebook post on Sunday, Bature described Kwankwaso’s decision as a betrayal of Mr. Boniface.

He said the situation had taught him a significant lesson in politics, noting that people speak of betrayal because Kwankwaso left the NNPP, not because he abandoned the Kwankwasiyya movement.

“We did not say we left the Kwankwasiyya movement or its ideas, and we have not stopped wearing the red cap,” he said.

Bature added that it is now time to pray for Kwankwaso, asserting that the former governor has betrayed himself by leaving the party.

He also noted that everyone is now in the same position, adding that, in one way or another, people have betrayed Mr. Boniface.

Meanwhile, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso confirmed on Sunday that he had resigned from the NNPP with immediate effect.

In a statement he personally signed, Kwankwaso said he made the decision after careful consideration of Nigeria’s political direction and the need to join a platform that offers better prospects for genuine change.

“I wish to formally announce my resignation from the NNPP with immediate effect,” he said.

Kwankwaso, who was the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, acknowledged that the decision was not easy due to his long history with the party.

However, he said the current political climate in the country necessitates a new direction.

“After looking at how things are going in the country, I believe it is necessary to join another political platform that gives the best chance to bring real change,” he added.
