The Kano State Police Command has shared details of an unusual incident in which a man visited the Command’s headquarters to seek advice on whether it was lawful to offer his wife ₦2 million in exchange for her consent to his second marriage.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, revealed the development in a Facebook post on Saturday.

According to Kiyawa, the man approached the police at the Bompai Headquarters, explaining that his wife had refused to approve his plan to take another wife. He then asked whether it would be against the law to persuade her with money to allow him to proceed.

Quoting the man, Kiyawa wrote: “A man has come to Bompai (Police headquarters) saying his wife refused to allow him to marry a second wife. He is inquiring whether it is legal to offer her ₦2 million to consent to the marriage. He was asking if it is against the law or not.”
Kiyawa, however, did not reveal what response or legal advice the man received from the police.

The revelation has since generated widespread discussion, where many netizens have expressed mixed reactions — some viewing the gesture as humorous, others seeing it as the beginning of potential marital corruption.
