The Kano State Government has approved automatic employment for qualified indigene doctors currently working in neighbouring states.

The move is intended to strengthen healthcare delivery in the state’s secondary health facilities.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf approved the initiative, the Kano State Hospitals Management Board said in an official announcement.

Eligible doctors are being encouraged to return to Kano to take up appointments in secondary healthcare facilities across the state.

The government said it has fully implemented the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) in line with the federal standard, adding that returning doctors are guaranteed to retain the same grade level they held with their previous employers.

In addition to the salary package, the state government is offering access to the Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF) and opportunities for in-house residency training in selected specialties.

The listed specialties include Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT), and Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
The announcement also indicated that further incentives would be introduced over time.

Eligible doctors have been asked to report immediately to the headquarters of the Kano State Hospitals Management Board for documentation and absorption.

Dr Mansur Mudi Nagoda, Executive Secretary of the Board, said the initiative aims “at addressing manpower gaps and improving service delivery in the state’s health sector.”
