The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, on Monday, abandoned his earlier plan to call witnesses in his defence.
Kanu, at the resumed hearing in his ongoing trial for alleged terrorism, told the Federal High Court, Abuja, that he perused the case file and discovered that he had no case to answer.
Justice James Omotosho had, on Friday, fixed Monday for the IPOB leader to open his defence following his complaint that the case file was yet to be handed over to him.
Kanu had, in a motion filed on October 21, informed the court of his intention to call 23 witnesses and applied for a witness summons.
But when the case was called on Monday, the activist said he had gone through the case file and had realised that there was no valid charge against him.

Kanu argued that since he was convinced that there is no valid charge against him and that he was subjected to an unlawful trial, it would be unnecessary to conduct any defence.
Justice Omotosho then asked him to file a written address and serve the prosecution.
The judge advised him to consult experts in criminal law on the consequences of the option he had chosen.
Omotosho, thereafter, adjourned the matter till November 4, 5 and 6 for the adoption of the final written addresses based on the defendant’s position that no charge had been established against him to enter his defence.
