
The Katsina State Police Command has cautioned operatives of the newly established Violent Crime Response Unit, VCRU, to uphold professionalism and operate within the law.
The Commissioner of Police, Ali Umar-Fage, gave the warning while addressing personnel of the unit after a three-day intensive training in Katsina.
He said the training was organised in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan-Disu, and aimed at strengthening the unit’s capacity to tackle violent crimes across the state.
Umar-Fage urged the officers to translate the knowledge acquired during the training into practical field operations, while maintaining discipline and integrity.
He warned against human rights violations, extortion and other forms of misconduct, stressing that the unit must function strictly within the ambit of the law.
The police commissioner also emphasised the need for intelligence-driven policing and stronger collaboration with communities to improve crime prevention and response.
He called on residents to support the police with credible and timely information to aid prompt action against criminal elements.
Umar-Fage reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property through professional and accountable policing.
