
Governor Nasir Idris has expressed shock over the killing of security personnel in an ambush in Kebbi State.
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday night at Giro Masa community in Shanga Local Government Area, left nine soldiers and one police officer dead, alongside some civilians.
Two military gun trucks were also reportedly set ablaze during the attack.
Idris confirmed the development on Wednesday while speaking to journalists after visiting the mortuary and the Accident and Emergency unit of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Birnin Kebbi, where victims were taken.
The governor described the attack as tragic, noting that the victims were among those working to protect lives and property in the state.
“This is a sad incident. These are the soldiers who protect the lives of Kebbi residents, yet they found themselves in this situation,” he said.
He assured that the state government would cover the medical bills of the injured and provide support to families of the deceased security personnel.
Idris also visited affected units of the hospital before proceeding for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation.
Details surrounding the attack remain unclear, though reports indicate the troops may have been ambushed during an operation.
As of the time of filing this report, military authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
