The Kebbi State Government has inaugurated a committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the abandoned construction of the Kebbi State Governor’s Lodge and Hotel Project located in Kaduna State.
The committee was constituted by Governor Nasir Idris as part of efforts to address longstanding concerns over the stalled project, which was initiated during a previous military administration and has remained incomplete for several years.
According to the state government, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Yakubu Ahmed will chair the committee. Other members include the Special Adviser on Due Process, Sirajo Garba Bagudu; the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Land and Housing, Ahmed Umar Yarima; and the Director of Architecture and Building at the Ministry of Works, Kabiru Hassan Wasagu, who will serve as secretary.
The panel has been given a two-week deadline to carry out its assignment and submit a detailed report to the state government.
Governor Idris directed the committee to establish the legal status of the project and determine whether the contractor complied with earlier advice from the then Solicitor-General to reconcile with the Kebbi State Government following the revocation of the contract.
The committee is also expected to assess the present condition of the project site, uncover the reasons for the prolonged abandonment, and examine the circumstances that led to the contract’s termination by the state government.
In addition, members are to verify the original contract sum as well as any subsequent revisions made before the project was halted.
The state government said the outcome of the investigation would guide further decisions on the project and ensure accountability in the management of public contracts.
