The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kebbi State has rejected the adoption of a former Minister of Special Duties, Taminu Kabiru Turaki, as the northern consensus candidate for the party’s national chairman position.
The PDP leaders in the North had earlier in the week adopted the ex-minister as the region’s consensus candidate for the position ahead of next month’s national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The party’s leaders in the North-West had earlier rejected the adoption and insisted that each state should deliberate and select a suitable candidate to represent the zone in line with the party’s zoning system.

The Kebbi PDP announced its position in a communiqué issued at the end of an emergency meeting held in Birnin Kebbi on Saturday and read by its Publicity Secretary, Sani Dododo.
The state executive committee aligned itself with the position of PDP leaders in the North-West.
“Kabiru Tanimu has never consulted the Kebbi State chapter of the party about his intention to contest. He has not been involved in any of the party’s activities in the state.
“At no time, not a day, not a minute, not even a second did Kabiru Tanimu visit Kebbi to seek support or consult any stakeholder or elder of the party,” the spokesman stated.
