The Lagos State Government on Tuesday announced a four-week partial closure of the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway to allow rehabilitation of failed sections by the Federal Ministry of Works.
According to Commissioner for Transportation Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the closure will run from Wednesday, February 11 to March 11, 2026, covering the stretch between U-Turn Bus Stop and Sango Tollgate. Both inbound and outbound lanes will be affected.
The project will be executed in two phases to minimise disruption:
- Phase One (Feb 11 – Mar 4): Abeokuta-bound traffic from Lagos/Abule-Egba to Sango Tollgate will be diverted to one half of the carriageway, about 20 metres from the work zone. Lagos-bound traffic will remain unaffected.
- Phase Two (Mar 4 – Mar 11): Lagos-bound traffic from Abeokuta/Sango Tollgate to Abule-Egba will be diverted in similar fashion, while Abeokuta-bound vehicles will continue to move freely.
Osiyemi assured that traffic management measures would be in place throughout the project and urged motorists to plan journeys carefully, obey signage, and cooperate with traffic officials. He appealed for patience, stressing that the repairs are essential for safer and smoother travel.
The announcement comes amid ongoing infrastructure interventions across major federal highways in Lagos and surrounding regions.
