The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over his comments on President Bola Tinubu’s recent trip abroad.
President Tinubu departed Abuja on Thursday for a 10-day working vacation in Europe, part of his 2025 annual leave. Obi, however, faulted the trip, arguing that the president’s frequent foreign travels created the impression of a leader who appeared increasingly uneasy at home despite Nigeria’s pressing economic and security challenges.
Responding in a statement on Saturday, the Lagos APC spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, described Obi’s remarks as “opportunistic” and symptomatic of his tendency to insert himself into “every national conversation, regardless of relevance.”
He argued that questioning the president’s vacation was both unnecessary and misleading.

“President Tinubu, like any responsible leader, remains fully briefed and in active communication with his security and intelligence teams even while on a brief vacation. Governance does not grind to a halt simply because a leader takes time to rest,” Oladejo stated.
The APC further accused Obi of exploiting national issues for political relevance, reducing complex governance challenges to “sound bites and sermons.” According to Oladejo, the former Anambra governor’s constant moralising reflected less patriotism and more desperation for visibility.
“It is time for Mr Obi’s handlers to advise him appropriately. A statesman cannot afford to sound perpetually agitated or misinformed. Nigeria requires a credible and constructive opposition, not a professional complainer,” the statement read.
Oladejo maintained that the APC government under Tinubu remained focused on rebuilding the economy, strengthening national security, and restoring institutional trust, and would not be distracted by what he described as “the performance theatre of political opportunists.”
