Lagos-Calabar Coastal: ‘I’m not God, nobody is perfect’ – Umahi gives reason for flooding

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has explained why a section of the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway was flooded after Tuesday’s rainfall.

Addressing issue on Thursday, the Minister blamed residents, who according to him, dump refuse indiscriminately on drainages.

The former Ebonyi State Governors then warned critics, who are more interested in finding faults with what his ministry is doing, saying they will always find one because he is not God.

“The flooding of the coastal highway was because our underground channel were blocked with refuse.

“And this is the basic reason why we even have flooding in most cases in Lagos. Where people carry their daily refuse and then put it inside the manhole. I think the public has a duty to, you know, check these things.

“So we are doing everything possible to ensure that the coastal highway is free, just like other highways of the nation.

“Whatever we need to do additionally when we’ll do it, but I want the public to know that in this ministry of works, no one is God.

“The public should know that no human being on earth is doing anything in perfect order, and so there is no need of people you know, looking for faults, because you will definitely find fault if that program is being executed by human being.

“The Ministry of works is doing everything possible, within the limit of our ability and our conscience, to ensure that there is value for money and that we do everything to address the yearnings and concerns of our people, as far as the road infrastructure is concerned.”
