Lagos Govt announces traffic diversion for Apongbon Bridge repairs

The Lagos State Government has announced traffic diversions to facilitate repair works by the Federal Ministry of Works on deteriorated asphalt sections of the ramp and service lane linking Inner Marina to Apongbon Bridge, as well as portions of Apongbon Bridge on both inbound and outbound carriageways.

The announcement was made in a statement released on Wednesday via the official X handle of the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation and signed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi.

According to the statement, repairs will begin with the Apongbon service lane and are expected to last six weeks, running from Thursday, February 5, to Thursday, March 19, 2026.

During this period, sections of the affected corridors will be temporarily closed to ensure the safety of motorists and enable the smooth execution of the project.

As a result, road users have been advised to observe the following alternative routes:

Inbound Apongbon Traffic

Motorists approaching from Inner Marina are to proceed to the Apongbon under-bridge roundabout, link up with Adeniji Adele Road, continue through Ebute Ero, and use the ramp to Apongbon/Eko Bridge to reach their destinations.

Vehicles coming from Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Third Mainland Bridge and Victoria Island will continue their journeys via Apongbon Bridge to Eko Bridge.

Rehabilitation of Apongbon Bridge Main Carriageway

Motorists from TBS, Third Mainland Bridge and Victoria Island will ramp down at the Apongbon under-bridge roundabout near UBA, proceed through Inner Marina, connect to the Apongbon Bridge service lane and continue onto Eko Bridge.

Upon completion of work on the inbound section, construction activities will move to the outbound side of the bridge.

Rehabilitation of Apongbon Service Lane (Chapel Street)

Motorists travelling from Eko Bridge towards Inner Marina will be diverted through the Ebute Ero Ramp, Adeniji Adele Road and the Apongbon under-bridge roundabout.

Traffic from Eko Bridge heading to Outer Marina, Victoria Island and Third Mainland Bridge will maintain through movement on Apongbon Bridge.

Motorists bound for Outer Marina, CMS, Victoria Island and Third Mainland Bridge will be diverted through Ebute Ero Ramp, Leventis and Outer Marina/CMS.

Those heading to Inner Marina will ramp down via Chapel Street to the Apongbon under-bridge roundabout to continue their journeys.

The government appealed to motorists to remain patient and comply with traffic control measures throughout the duration of the repairs, stressing that the temporary diversions are necessary to ensure the successful completion of the project.

Traffic management officials will be deployed along the affected routes to direct vehicles and minimise disruption to road users.
