The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office, LSWMO, has taken decisive action against illegal sewage discharge in the state by sealing a public toilet located on Offin Road off Apongbon.
The facility was found to be deliberately channelling raw sewage directly into the public drainage system, creating offensive odour and visible sewage flow within the community.
A statement released by the Lagos State Commissioner for Water Resources and Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, on Tuesday, said the act constituted a public nuisance, environmental pollution, and posed significant risks to human health.
Following repeated warnings, COSJANE MALL along Festac Link Road in Amuwo Odofin was also sealed for discharging untreated wastewater into the public drainage system. The action was necessary to prevent further environmental pollution and protect public health.
“After several warnings, COSJANE MALL along Festac Link Road in Amuwo Odofin was also sealed for discharging untreated wastewater into public drainage system, constituting environmental pollution and threat to public health,” the statement added.
This enforcement as earlier reported, aligns with similar operations carried out earlier by the State Government.
On Wednesday, February 18th, 2026, a public toilet at Savage Street, Ebute Metta, was sealed after officials discovered raw sewage being pumped directly into the drain.
According to the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office, the discharge resulted in offensive odour and sewage flow within the community, posing a grave danger to human health.
In a statement made available by the Lagos State Commissioner for Water Resources and Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, the State Government described such acts as unacceptable and harmful to the general public health.
The statement noted that the facilities were sealed to prevent further pollution and to protect residents living within the affected communities.
“Illegal and improper wastewater disposal threatens environmental sustainability and increases the risk of disease outbreaks, especially in very populated areas such as Ebute Metta,” Wahab emphasized.
The LSWMO, as part of its mandate, monitors wastewater facilities, prevents environmental abuse, and ensures compliance with sanitation laws across Lagos State.
The State Government, through official communication channels, urged residents to adopt proper hygiene practices to support public health and maintain a clean environment.
“Any act of environmental nuisance or pollution will attract appropriate sanctions and possible prosecution,” the statement warned.

The Lagos State Government reiterated its commitment to enforcing environmental laws and promoting responsible sanitation practices, noting that collective responsibility remains key to building a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable Lagos.
