Operatives of the Lagos State Taskforce have arrested suspected “Omotaku” touts in two different locations across Lagos State following reported cases of harassment and intimidation of road users.

According to the statement by the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, the incidents, which occurred on Wednesday, involved separate confrontations at Marwa Bus Stop in Lekki and along Ikorodu Road at Palmgrove.

In the first incident at Marwa Bus Stop, a truck driver whose vehicle had developed a fault was reportedly approached by some individuals who allegedly demanded his phone and money while threatening him.

“At Marwa Bus Stop in Lekki, a truck driver whose vehicle had broken down was confronted and threatened by individuals who demanded his phone and money,” the statement said.

In another case at Palmgrove along Ikorodu Road, suspected touts were said to have attempted to harass motorists and other road users in the area.

“Similarly, another incident occurred at Palmgrove along Ikorodu Road, where suspected touts attempted to harass road users,” the statement added.

Both situations were quickly brought under control after operatives of the Lagos State Taskforce intervened and arrested the suspects at the scenes.

The agency confirmed that the suspects will be processed in line with the law.

“We remain committed to keeping our roads safe, protecting motorists, and eliminating all forms of harassment and intimidation across Lagos.
Enforcement operations will continue across identified hotspots to maintain order and security,” the statement said.
