The Lagos State Government has warned food vendors operating within public schools across the state to comply strictly with approved health and safety regulations, stressing that principals would be held responsible for any violations recorded in their schools.

The warning was contained in a statement issued by the Lagos State Government and delivered by the newly appointed Supervising Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary (TG/PS), Education District III, Dr. Idowu Olufunke Oyetola, during her maiden strategic meeting with principals held at the district headquarters in Falomo, Ikoyi.

At the meeting, Dr. Oyetola formally assumed duty and outlined her administration’s vision while reaffirming the Lagos State Government’s commitment to quality education delivery across schools in the district.

Addressing issues relating to school health and safety, the Supervising TG/PS cautioned that all food vendors operating within school premises must adhere to laid-down regulations, noting that school heads would be held accountable for any infractions.

“All food vendors operating within school premises must strictly comply with laid-down regulations, while principals will be held accountable for any violations recorded in their schools,” Dr. Oyetola said.

She also charged principals across the district to maintain excellence, discipline and integrity in the administration of schools, especially ahead of the forthcoming West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE.

Speaking on the examination, Dr. Oyetola stressed the need for schools in the district to sustain and improve existing academic performance, noting that Education District III currently ranks second in the Lagos State West African Examinations Council, WAEC, performance index.

She urged principals to intensify preparations for the examination and maintain a zero-tolerance stance against examination malpractice, warning that any violation would attract disciplinary action.

The Supervising TG/PS also directed schools to ensure that all eligible students are properly registered and adequately prepared for the Basic Education Certificate Examination, BECE, in line with the state government’s education policy.

On data management, Dr. Oyetola described accurate data as essential for effective planning and administration. She directed schools to ensure prompt and proper capturing of staff and students’ records into the state database.

She further reminded officers approaching retirement to notify the district at least six months before their exit date to allow smooth workforce planning and avoid administrative delays.

According to her, failure to comply with the directive could affect the processing and endorsement of retirement documents.

Dr. Oyetola also reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to holistic education through co-curricular activities, directing all schools to actively participate in the 15 approved state competitions while making adequate provisions for training and logistics.

The Supervising TG/PS stressed the importance of the Lagos State Health Scheme and urged members of staff to keep their Ilera Eko plans active.

She also directed schools to intensify the enrolment of students into the health scheme in support of the state government’s Greater Lagos agenda.

As she concluded, Dr. Oyetola urged school administrators to remain dedicated to their duties, stressing that schools across the district must maintain high standards to help shape responsible future leaders and preserve the values of the Lagos State education sector.

“Every school in the district must operate at optimal standards in order to positively shape the future of learners and uphold the values of the Lagos State education sector,” Oyetola added.
