The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has condemned the recent bomb blasts in Maiduguri, Borno State, describing the incident as evidence of the Federal Government’s failure to tackle insecurity.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, said the multiple explosions, which reportedly claimed at least 23 lives and injured over 100 others, highlight what he called the inability of the All Progressives Congress, APC, led administration to curb rising violence across the country.
“The recent multiple bombings in Maiduguri… are another incontrovertible piece of evidence of the inability of the APC-led Federal Government to curb the growing insecurity in the country,” Ememobong said.
The PDP blamed the worsening security situation on the administration of President Bola Tinubu, noting that the APC had promised to end insecurity but had failed to do so more than a decade later.
“This bombing is an unfortunate addition to the numerous acts of grave insecurity that have occurred under the watch of President Bola Tinubu.
“Sadly, 11 years later, insecurity has not only increased significantly in the Northeastern part of Nigeria; it has spread almost uncontrollably to many other parts of the country.”
The opposition party further accused the Presidency of prioritising political battles over addressing security challenges.
“Despite this glaring failure, the APC-led Presidency has devoted more time, energy, and resources to the task of political genocide against the opposition, instead of deploying the same to combat the growing insecurity,” the statement said.
While expressing sympathy with victims and their families, the PDP called on the Federal Government to adopt a more practical and inclusive approach to security.
“We call on the Federal Government to move beyond rhetoric in security matters and engage strategic stakeholders… as part of a whole-of-society approach to combating insecurity,” PDP added.
The party urged authorities to implement effective strategies to address what it described as a growing national crisis.
