Pandemonium broke lose on Sunday afternoon outside the Ugbowo campus main gate of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) as a man was shot dead in his car.
In videos circulating online, the vehicle which seemed to have crashed with another is seen with bullet holes on the front windscreen, with the man seemingly dead at the steering wheel.

A crowd gathered round the scene, but ran in different directions as gunshots again rang out.
Unconfirmed reports say the victim was a part-time Political Science student of the institution who just completed his semester examinations.
However, the management of UNIBEN has reportedly dissociated its students and staff from the incident, linking it to alleged cult activities outside the campus.
