Lionel Messi bagged two assists as Inter Miami secured a 3-1 victory over Vancouver Whitecaps at Chase Stadium in the final of the MLS Cup.
The MLS Cup is the championship game of Major League Soccer, the top-flight league in the United States.
A post-season knockout tournament determines the champion, following the regular season in which teams are split into the Eastern and Western Conferences.
Inter Miami were the top scorers in the Eastern Conference, registering 81 times
The club, owned by David Beckham, made their MLS debut in 2020, having officially launched as a franchise in 2018, and they can now boast the league’s greatest prize.

Messi expressed delight after winning the club’s first-ever MLS Cup title.
He told ESPN: “This is the moment that I’ve been waiting for, and that we as a team have been waiting for.
“A beautiful, emotional moment for us, for the people of Miami, to be able to achieve the MLS objective.
“It’s a very new club, so to speak…this was the real objective, to win MLS and be at the top of the American league, and luckily we achieved it…so we have to enjoy it”.
