Middle East conflict: Oluwo urges Trump to apologise to Iran

The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, has called on United States President Donald Trump to apologise to Iran for the country’s support of Israel in the ongoing war involving the two Middle Eastern nations.

In a statement by Alli Ibraheem, his Chief Press Secretary, on Wednesday, Oba Akanbi described the conflict as needless and condemned the reported killing of Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, earlier this week.

The traditional ruler, in the statement, said that he wished it ended well for those involved but criticised the United States’ position, saying: “Only cowardly countries can surrender themselves to such an approach.”

“I love America so much, but its president should rethink his leadership style.”

The monarch accused US forces of targeting innocent students in recent military actions.

The Oluwo also warned that the killing of the Iranian leader risked further undermining international peace and stability, arguing that “what war can do, peace can achieve more.”

He noted that Iran had survived years of international sanctions and maintained that the current hostilities had no quantifiable essence.

He highlighted the disruption to the world economy, citing flight cancellations and stranded passengers as knock-on effects of the hostilities.

Oba Akanbi urged that respect for sovereignty should guide global relations, condemning the assassination of the Iranian leader on February 28, 2026.

He also reiterated his call for President Trump to apologise to Iran and the world at large.

The Oluwo’s comments come amid widespread reactions to the Middle East conflict, including protests and diplomatic responses in several countries.
