Task Force against street trading around Idiape market area of Ilorin, Kwara State has continued to face resistance in the last two months since the enforcement commenced.

An official of the state Environmental Protection Agency, who preferred anonymity, informed DAILY POST in Ilorin on Friday that, “despite the efforts of the combined efforts of the security agencies to enforce the ban on traders, nothing tangible appears to have been achieved.”

The sources revealed that”once the security forces move, the traders relocate to their previous locations.

There are also strong indications that the Mobile court, headed by Chief Magistrate Aluko, handling arrest and prosecution of culprits may increase the fines imposed on violators of the ban on illegal street traders in the area.

“The fine may be increased from N20,000 to N50,000 to enforce the ban,” an official of the environmental protection agency, told the DAILY POST in confidence in Ilorin on Friday.

DAILY POST reports that many goods have been impounded and fines imposed by the mobile court charged with the responsibility of sanctioning violators.
