Staff of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, MOUAU, Abia State, have reacted to social media reports accusing the institution’s management of mismanagement of funds.
The workers, who spoke in the university’s campus on Tuesday, said that the reports about misappropriation of funds were falsehood sponsored by enemies of the institution to incite tension and instability.
In a vote of confidence raised by Professor Michael Ekwe and Ogechi Umeh, the staff of MOUUA said that the administration of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, has brought peace and stability to the university.
They thanked the vice chancellor and his team for recovering lost academic programs and securing the land for the institution’s permanent site.
“The vice chancellor worked his heart out in pursuit of institutional peace and stability and we wonder why persons who do not understand how a university operates would allow themselves to be sponsored to smear his name on social media,” Ekwe said.
Earlier in his address to the staff, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, highlighted that his outgoing administration achieved several projects despite limited resources.
He expressed surprise at attempts by people he described as his “opponents” to smear his administration’s reputation on social media, including threats to report him to an anti-corruption agency.
