Nigeria’s anti-trafficking agency has launched an investigation into alleged child molestation and abuse at a daycare facility in Lagos following renewed attention generated by social media discussions.

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) confirmed on Friday that its Director-General, Binta Adamu Bello, ordered operatives to begin a full-scale inquiry after “suggestive online posts” pointed to possible abuse within a daycare setting.

The development comes amid online conversations involving Nigerian singer Simi, whose past posts recently resurfaced and drew public attention. While the agency did not name the facility or provide specific details about the allegations, it indicated that the probe was prompted by concerns raised on digital platforms.

In a statement shared via X on Friday, NAPTIP said the Director-General had directed immediate investigative action to determine the credibility of the claims and establish whether any criminal violations occurred.

The agency stressed that the investigation would follow due process and urged members of the public with relevant information to come forward. It added that its reporting channels remain open for potential victims or witnesses.

“While appreciating the genuine concern of Nigerians on the matter, the Agency wishes to inform the general public that all its communication platforms are active and available to take complaints from anyone who may have been abused or violated at the said day care,” it stated.

The move reflects growing responsiveness by law enforcement agencies to allegations amplified through social media, particularly those involving child welfare and institutional care environments.
