Veteran journalist and former presidential aide, Reuben Abati, has said that Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso acted out of caution in their recent political move to the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, citing uncertainties surrounding the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
Speaking on The Morning Show on Arise Television on Monday, Abati said the two politicians may have anticipated potential legal and structural challenges within the party.
According to him, the referral of the party’s substantive issues to the Federal High Court has created uncertainty about its future, prompting both Obi and Kwankwaso to align with what he described as a more stable political platform.
Abati added that questions remain about the next political direction for both candidates, including the possibility of a joint ticket and the nature of any emerging alliance ahead of future elections.
He said: “Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso acted wisely out of fear because it is very clear that the ADC that they joined is not going to work, you could run into troubled matters.
“The substantive matter having been referred to the Federal High Court, so they don’t know how that will turn out. So they’ve quickly ported to another existing platform.
“So however, what is the way forward for both candidates? Is it going to be OK ticket? What is the alliance advertising so that will be the big question.”
DAILY POST reported that Obi and Kwankwaso officially joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, on Sunday.
The duo were officially received into the party by Seriake Dickson, its national leader, top executives, and hundreds of supporters at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Sunday evening.
