The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has destroyed 8,166.95 kilograms of seized illicit drugs in Yobe State, as the agency tightened its grip on illicit drug trafficking and abuse.
Chairman of NDLEA, Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa (Retd), who presided over the destruction exercise in Kasaisa village, Damaturu, said since the creation of the Yobe State Command in 2003, the command has made a total seizure of 16,011.13 kilograms of various illicit drugs.
“Out of this total, 8,166.95 kilograms have been approved for public destruction, while the remaining 7,844.18 kilograms are pending before the Federal High Court, Damaturu, and are securely kept in the NDLEA Yobe State Command exhibit room,” he said.
According to the Chairman, this was possible through the relentless efforts of officers and men of the Command.
“The event is not only a statutory requirement, but a public demonstration of accountability, transparency, and victory over criminal enterprise.
“For the first time in Yobe State, seized drug substances are being publicly destroyed, ensuring they will never find their way back into the streets to endanger our youth again.
“This exercise reflects the NDLEA’s strong commitment to the rule of law and maintaining integrity in every aspect of exhibit management, from seizure to final disposal,” he added.
