The Kano Strategic Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it has seized a large quantity of illegal drugs allegedly meant for distribution during the coming Sallah celebrations.
The drugs were intercepted in the Badawa area of Kano after operatives acted on intelligence about the shipment.

According to a statement signed by Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, Assistant Superintendent of narcotics and public relations officer Kano,.officers recovered 75,000 capsules of pregabalin, 556 bottles of codeine, and large quantity of cannabis sativa during the operation.

The command said the raid was carried out under the leadership of DY Lawal, adding that the action disrupted what could have become a major supply of drugs into the state.

Although the main suspect escaped arrest during the operation, the agency said he is currently being monitored.

Officials said efforts are ongoing to track him down and ensure he faces the law.

Reacting to the development, Commander Lawal said the seizure had dealt a strong blow to drug traffickers operating in the area.

“This seizure is a serious blow to the cartel’s network and protects the good people of Kano from the harms of these illicit substances,” he said.

He added that the agency would continue its fight against drug trafficking in line with the directive of the NDLEA leadership.

“In line with the direction of our Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), CON, OFR, we remain steadfast in our commitment to a drug-free society and will not relent in this fight.”

The command also thanked residents for supporting the agency with information that helps its operations.

The NDLEA warned individuals involved in drug trafficking to stop, saying the agency will continue to pursue offenders.

He encouraged residents who have information about drug trafficking to contact the Kano Strategic Command through the agency’s official communication channels.
