Netflix is reportedly doubling down on artificial intelligence in filmmaking after agreeing to acquire InterPositive, an AI startup co-founded by actor and filmmaker Ben Affleck, in a deal that could be worth up to $600 million, according to Bloomberg.
The acquisition, announced on Wednesday but without disclosed financial details, would rank among the largest deals in Netflix’s history if the reported valuation is confirmed. The streaming giant’s biggest purchase to date remains its $700 million acquisition of the Roald Dahl Story Company.
Sources familiar with the matter said the total value of the InterPositive transaction may include performance-based payouts, meaning the upfront cash component could be significantly lower. Additional payments would depend on the company meeting specific operational and technological milestones.
The move aligns with Netflix’s broader strategy to integrate AI into film and television production, particularly in areas that streamline editing and visual effects.
Netflix is not alone in exploring the technology. Amazon has begun building internal AI teams focused on film and television development, while Disney has entered into a partnership with OpenAI to explore AI-driven creative tools.
