New Commissioner of Police Haruna Yahaya takes charge in Jigawa

The Jigawa State Police Command has announced that CP Haruna Alaba Yahaya has officially resumed duty as the new Commissioner of Police in the state.

In a statement released on Tuesday by the command’s spokesperson, Shiisu Lawan Adam, the new commissioner took over from AIG Dahiru Muhammad, who has been promoted and redeployed to Zone 15 in Maiduguri.

CP Haruna, who hails from Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, joined the Nigeria Police Force on 18 May 1992 as a cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police. He holds a degree in Geography from the University of Jos.

With over 30 years of experience, he has served in various roles across the country, including operations, investigations and administration.

Before his new posting, he served as Commissioner of Police in charge of General Investigation at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Lagos, as well as CP Investment.

He has also held key positions such as Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations in Borno State and Deputy Commissioner of Police for investigation and intelligence at the National Central Bureau (INTERPOL) in Abuja.

In addition, he served as Assistant Commissioner of Police for operations in Enugu State and as Area Commander at the Eastern Ports Authority Police Command.

The new commissioner has promised to focus on professionalism, intelligence-led policing, respect for human rights and stronger cooperation with the community.
