NGX: Equities market consolidates on previous gain with N254bn profit

The Nigerian equities market consolidated on the previous day’s gain with a N254 billion profit for investors on Tuesday.

This followed a surge in the share prices of stocks like Regency Alliance Insurance Plc, Mecure Industries, and ETranzact International, among others, on the trading floor.

The benchmark All-Share Index (ASI) rose to 139,796.11 points from the 139,394.75 points recorded on the previous day.

After five hours of trading at the capital market, the equity capitalisation increased to N88.4 trillion from N88.1 trillion posted by the bourse on Monday.

The market breadth was positive with 36 stocks advancing, 19 stocks declining, and 82 stocks remaining unchanged in 25,334 deals.

Regency Alliance Insurance Plc, Mecure Industries, and ETranzact International led other gainers with 10%, 9.92% and 9.73% growth each in share price to close at N1.43, N21.60, and N12.40 from the previous N1.30, N19.6,5, and N11.30 per share.

Unilever Nigeria Plc, FTN Cocoa, and Union Ellah Lakes Plc led other price decliners with a 9.79%, 9.40% and 8.76% dip in share prices to close at N63.15, N5.40, and N13.02 per share, down from the previous N70.00, N5.96, and N14.27 per share.

On the volume index, First City Monument Bank led trading with 202 million shares in 465 deals, followed by Universal Insurance Plc, which traded 63 million shares in 313 deals.

First Bank Holding Company traded 44 million shares in 526 deals.

On the value index, First City Monument Bank traded stocks valued at N2.0 billion in 465 deals, followed by Guaranty Trust Holding Co, which traded equities worth N1.5 billion in 1,172 deals.

First Bank Holding Company traded shares valued at N1.3 billion in 526 deals.
