NGX: Equity capitalisation rises as investors gain N2.2tr

Investors in the Nigerian equities market gained N2,28 trillion at the close of trading on Wednesday.

This followed a surge in the share prices of stocks such as Airtel Africa, Aradel and ETI, among others on the trading floor.

The benchmark All-Share Index (ASI) increased to 209,317.41 points from 205,913.93 points recorded on the previous day.

After five hours of trading on the capital market, equity capitalisation increased to N134.7 trillion from N132.4 trillion posted by the bourse on Tuesday.

The market breadth was positive, with 38 stocks advancing, 37 declining, and 74 remaining unchanged in 46,231 deals.

A total of 706,392,357 shares were traded, valued at N41.8 billion.

Airtel Africa, Aradel and ETI led the gainers’ chart, with 10%, 10% and 9.98% growth each in share prices, respectively, to close at N2, 746.70, N1406.90, and N55.65 per share, up from N2, 497.00, N1,279.00, and N50.60 per share.

Austin Laz, John Holt and CWG led other price decliners, with 9.77%, 9.72%, and 7.22% declines, respectively, to close at N3.60, N13.00, and N21.20 per share, down from N3.99, N14.40, and 22.85 per share, respectively.

On the volume index, Zenith Bank led trading with 73 million shares in 3,756 deals, followed by Tantalizers, which traded 56 million shares in 320 deals.

UBA traded 49 million shares in 2, 315 deals.

On the value index, Zenith Bank traded stocks valued at N8.7 billion in 3, 756 deals, followed by MTN Nigeria, which traded equities worth N4.3 billion in 3,197 deals.

GTCO traded shares valued at N4.0 billion in 2, 396.
