The Commissioner of Police in Niger State, Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, has deployed three Deputy Commissioners of Police to the three senatorial districts to oversee election security for the November 1st Local Government Councils elections.
The CP made this known in a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun in Minna

He stated that the deployment is part of a larger effort that include mobilizing various police units and other security agencies to cover all 4,950 polling units and 274 wards across the state’s 25 Local Government Areas..
Elleman disclosed that this is in addition to massive deployment of Police personnel and operational assets including tactical teams such as 12pmf, 61pmf, Counter terrorism unit (CTU), EOD-CBRN, Special protection unit (SPU), Tactical support team (TST), Crack squad, and Anti-kidnapping unit as well as other security agencies under Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) to provide security coverage across the state.

Consequently, he noted that an Operation Order for the election duty has been issued to all Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders and DPOs stating their specific responsibilities, particularly to escort and protect both sensitive and non-sensitive materials, and provide a conducive environment for eligible voters to exercise their franchise.
According to him, ” We want to he reiterate the Command’s readiness to provide adequate security for a peaceful and credible election.

” We urge all political parties to play by the rules. We also warn youths or anyone who may want to foment trouble that security agencies will not hesitate to clamp down on such persons.”
The CP added that enforcement of vehicular movement restriction shall also commence from 6am-6pm on the election day, except officials on essential duties.
