The Super Eagles of Nigeria have dropped out of the top five for Africa in FIFA's latest World Ranking for September 2025.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have dropped one spot to 45th in the September FIFA World Rankings, despite maintaining nearly the same points tally as in the previous edition.

According to FIFA’s latest update, Nigeria now sits on 1,483 points, just one point less than in July. The decline comes after a mixed run of results during the ranking window, which included two victories, one draw, and two defeats.

On the continental stage, the Super Eagles remain 6th in Africa, trailing behind Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, and Côte d’Ivoire.

Globally, Spain reclaimed top spot for the first time since 2014, overtaking Argentina, while Slovakia made the biggest leap, climbing 10 places to 42nd.

FIFA noted that the latest ranking was shaped by over 200 international matches, underscoring the dynamic nature of global football standings.

The Super Eagles’ inconsistency continues to be a concern, as they look to stabilise their form ahead of upcoming international fixtures.
