Coach of Benin Republic national team, Gernot Rohr, has revealed the strategy his team would adopt when they clash with the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the World Cup qualifiers on Tuesday.
The Franco-German boss acknowledged the atmosphere at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, the match venue, could be hostile.
Rohr became the coach of the Cheetahs after he was dismissed by Nigeria and is familiar with Uyo.
Rohr said they would approach the game with calmness, composure and focus.
All that Gernot Rohr and his men need going into the encounter is a draw to keep their qualification hopes alive.
They are already sitting top in the Group C on 17 points, followed by South Africa on 15 points and Nigeria on 14.
Speaking to Goal, Rohr said, “Yes, the atmosphere can obviously be hostile. But we will try to maintain a certain calm and serenity.
“On the pitch, this will translate into a desire to play the game. We will try to have good possession of the ball.
“We have a game based on good defence, with counterattacks. This is what we will want to practice in Uyo.”
Benin Republic have been in Uyo since Saturday, following their hard-fought 1-0 win over Rwanda’s Wasps on Friday.
