The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has warned members of the public against fraudulent practices by criminals who are using the name and logo of the service to perpetrate crimes.
It urged individuals and members of the public who suspect foul play to report suspected fraudulent activities to law enforcement agencies, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Nigeria Police Force.
In a statement issued on Saturday, signed by Chief Superintendent of Corrections and Service Public Relations Officer, J.N. Osuji, the NCoS said scammers have been distributing a document titled “Payment/Mobilisation Request Form” and soliciting payments from victims, falsely claiming it relates to contract awards.
“The Service unequivocally states that this document did not originate from the NCoS. We operate strictly in accordance with extant Federal Government regulations and established due process in all procurement and contract-related matters,” it said.
According to the statement, at no time does the Service request, demand, or accept upfront payments, mobilisation fees, or any form of financial inducement from individuals or contractors.
It added that fraudsters have impersonated senior officials on social media platforms, issuing fake contract offers and directing victims to deposit funds into private bank accounts.
The NCoS described these activities as deliberate attempts to exploit unsuspecting citizens.
