The Federal Government has inaugurated principal officers for newly established federal tertiary institutions as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s higher education system.
The inauguration was carried out in Abuja by the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, who also installed the new leadership of the National Commission for Colleges of Education.
The development was disclosed in a statement posted on the Federal Ministry of Education’s official page, on march 12, 2026.
According to the minister, the appointments cover key leadership positions for the Federal University of Science and Technology, Epe and the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Federal Polytechnic, Abuja.
According to the statement, Alausa said the move forms part of ongoing steps by the Federal Government to expand opportunities in tertiary education and strengthen the training of teachers across the country.
He further explained that the newly created institutions are expected to contribute to research and innovation in areas considered important to national development.
The minister identified fields such as food security, climate change, renewable energy and technological advancement as priority areas the institutions are expected to focus on.
Alausa also urged the leadership of the National Commission for Colleges of Education to improve oversight of colleges of education and ensure that academic standards within the teacher training system remain strong.
The Federal Ministry of Education said the appointments are part of broader efforts to strengthen institutional leadership, improve governance structures and enhance the overall competitiveness of Nigeria’s tertiary education sector.
