The Nigerian Law School has commenced the construction of 600-bed hostels at its Bwari campus in Abuja.

The Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, Prof. Isa Hayatu Chiroma (SAN), commended the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, for fulfilling his promise to build new hostels for students at the Bwari campus.

Speaking during the official flag-off ceremony in Abuja, Prof. Chiroma described the event as a “fulfilment of the promise made” by the FCT Minister to support legal education.

He recalled that Wike had, in December 2024, pledged to provide a 2025 budgetary allocation for the construction of 300-bed male and 300-bed female hostels for the institution.

“The reason why we all gathered here this morning is the fulfilment of the promise made — the flag-off for the construction of 300-bed space hostels each for male and female students at the Nigerian Law School, Bwari,” the DG said.

Project to boost learning environment

Prof. Chiroma said the new hostels would go a long way in helping the institution meet its growing accommodation needs and improve students’ welfare.

He expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the project and to the Federal Ministry of Justice for its continued support.

“We are not taking this gesture for granted,” he said. “On behalf of the Council of Legal Education, management, staff, and students, I thank His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for approving this project.”

He also appreciated the Attorney-General of the Federation, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), and the Solicitor General, Mrs. Beatrice Jedy-Agba, for their consistent assistance to the school.

Prof. Chiroma further praised Wike’s contributions to the development of legal education in Nigeria, noting his record of supporting law school campuses and justice sector projects.

“To many of us familiar with your antecedents, it is history repeating itself. The Graham Douglas Campus of the Law School in Port Harcourt, the Yenagoa campus, and provision of staff quarters and utility vehicles are legacy projects that will continue to speak for your developmental stride in Nigeria,” he said.

He described the FCT Minister as “our great benefactor” and assured that the Nigerian Law School deeply appreciates his intervention and commitment to legal education.
