1. President Bola Tinubu lifted the emergency rule in Rivers State from Wednesday midnight. In a statement, the President asked suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara to resume work on Thursday, September 18. He also asked Ngozi Nma Odu, the Deputy Governor, and Rivers lawmakers to resume their duties.
2. The National Examinations Council, NECO, has disclosed that 38 schools in 13 states were involved in whole school cheating during the conduct of 2025 Internal Senior School.Certificate Examination. Announcing this during the release of the 2025 Internal SSCE, the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of NECO, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi said that nine supervisors were recommended for blacklisting due to poor supervision.
3. The Federation Account Allocation Committee, FAAC, has disbursed N2.225 trillion as federation revenue for August 2025 — the highest ever allocation to the three tiers of government and other statutory recipients. This marks the second consecutive month that FAAC disbursements have crossed the N2 trillion mark.
4. The Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, was on Wednesday plunged into mourning following the death of four of its senior staff members in the fire incident that gutted Afriland Towers on Broad Street, Lagos, on Tuesday. The deceased staff were trapped while on duty at one of the two FIRS offices located on the sixth and seventh floors of the building when the inferno broke out.
5. The Niger State Police Command has arrested a man who allegedly impersonated a soldier in an attempt to rob motorcycle riders in Minna. Another suspect was also apprehended in Bangi town, Niger State for stealing a motorcycle. This was disclosed in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, on Wednesday.
6. The Federal Government has reintroduced Nigerian History as a compulsory subject in the basic education curriculum to strengthen national identity, unity, patriotism, and responsible citizenship. The Federal Ministry of Education announced the introduction in a statement on its official X account on Wednesday.
7. The Delta State Police Command has arrested a man it described as the most wanted armed robber in the state, Emmanuel Emiowor, who specialised in attacking churches at night and carting away instruments and other items. The police spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this on Wednesday in Asaba, the Delta State capital.
8. The Ministry of Finance Incorporated on Wednesday disclosed that Nigeria imported more than 560,000 metric tonnes of fertiliser raw materials in 2025 alone, underscoring the Federal Government’s determination to guarantee steady access to agricultural inputs under the Presidential Fertiliser Initiative.
9. The Naira on Wednesday depreciated to N1,537 per dollar in the parallel market from N1,535 per dollar on Tuesday. Likewise the Naira depreciated to N1,498 per dollar in the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM).
10. Saudi Arabia’s Anti-Drug Authorities have released three Nigerian pilgrims, who were detained in Jeddah since last month, following their arrest over alleged drug trafficking, which was masterminded by a drug syndicate operating at the Kano airport. The three Nigerians who were freed from detention after four weeks in custody include Mrs. Maryam Abdullahi, Mrs. Abdullahi Aminu and Mr. Abdulhamid Saddieq.
