1. The Senate on Wednesday screened Taiwo Oyedele for the position of Minister of State for Finance following his nomination by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. 2. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated former Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission, Lamido Abubakar Yuguda, as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, subject to confirmation by the Senate. In an advisory posted on its X page, NiMet said residents of Benue, Nasarawa, the Federal Capital Territory, Kogi, Niger, Kebbi, Cross River, Oyo, Ogun and other inland areas of the southern states are particularly vulnerable to extreme heat.
5. The Federal High Court in Abuja, on Wednesday, adjourned a fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by former Gov. Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State against the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission and four others until March 25 for hearing. Justice Joyce Abdulmalik adjourned the case to allow parties in the suit to regularise their processes.
6. Former Speaker of the House of Representatives and ex-Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, has formally resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party and joined the African Democratic Congress. The ex-governor cited the PDP’s persistent internal crisis, leadership disagreements, and deepening divisions as the driving forces behind his decision.
7. Following the escalating insecurity, which has resulted in the killings of military officers, soldiers and ordinary Nigerians in the past few weeks, Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa, retd, on Wednesday summoned all service chiefs to his office in Abuja to review ongoing strategies across different operational areas in the country.
8. The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, on Wednesday reduced its petrol price following Dangote Refinery’s announcement of a gantry price cut. It was observed that NNPCL filling stations in Abuja and environs lowered their fuel pump price to N1,165 per liter on Wednesday, down from N1,260 per liter on Tuesday.
9. Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force (North-East) Operation HADIN KAI have repelled coordinated attacks by terrorists on their location in Goniri, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe. 10. Naira appreciated further at the official market on Wednesday, trading at N1,376.19 to the United States dollar, according to data released by the Central Bank of Nigeria. Data on the CBN’s website showed the Naira gained N25.20 against the dollar at the Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange Market. The gain represents a 1.8 per cent appreciation compared with Tuesday’s closing rate of N1,401.40 to the dollar at the same market.
