Nigerians react as Sheikh Gumi’s son graduates from NDA

1 hour ago 2

Nigerian social media users have descended on controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, after pictures of his son’s graduation from the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), surfaced on several platforms.

The images of the Kaduna-based cleric and staunch bandit sympathizer with his son, Abdulrahaman Ahmad, who graduated as a Lieutenant, was also shared by the former lawmaker who represented Kaduna Central in the National Assembly, Senator Shehu Sani, on his X handle on Tuesday and the social media went into overdrive as netizens attacked the cleric.

“Sheikh Gumi’s son, Abdulrahaman Ahmad, graduated from the Nigerian Defence Academy; Congratulations and wishing him all the best in the service to our country,” Sani wrote along with the image.

However, Nigerians would not line up with their congratulatory messages as many of them rather dragged Gumi, himself a retired Captain in the Nigerian Army who has turned himself into an unofficial spokesman for bandits and terrorists in the country.

@Frankie44 said:

“Best wishes to the Nigerian Army. Perhaps the son could be assigned to the troubled region, where he can demonstrate his courage just as well. After all, his father—the Sheikh himself—has long been a voice for the people in that area.”

“I hope he will be deployed to the frontlines to battle the terrorists Boko Haram and bandits while the father continues to negotiate with them!”

@FygLynch:

“What a smart move by Gumi, Boko Haram spokesperson/mediator has successfully planted his son in Nigeria Army; do your arithmetic well, you will surely have the equal to.”

@OgaBahaushe:

“Congrats to Abdulrahman Ahmad, but let’s not ignore the elephant in the room — his father publicly sympathized with bandits. This contradiction shouldn’t be swept under the rug in a country battling terrorism.

“The son joins the army to fight insecurity. The father spent years defending those causing the insecurity. Nigeria is truly a land of paradoxes.

“Congrats to Gumi pikin, but how soldier go dey fight bandits and im papa dey defend dem? Na which kain contradiction be this? Naija no dey ever shock again.”

@Onemouthpiece_09

“I hope Nigerians are connecting the dots…. Nigerians have finally been cowed!!! Nigeria is gone, finished!! I laugh in adjectives.”
